Emotional intelligence can boost leadership performance

Many studies have found that prolonged stress can cause degeneration in the brain area responsible for self control. Whilst moderate stress is an essential emotion that promotes performance peaks, prolonged stress can cause physical and emotional damage.

Most stress is subjective and under our control

Here are some strategies successful, happy and healthy people use when faced with stress. Whilst some may seem obvious, the real challenge is recognising when you need to use them and then having the ability and motivation to use them in spite of yourself and your stress.

This is emotional intelligence in action.

  1. Attitude of gratitude

  2. Constructive vs defensive orientation - avoiding 'what if'

  3. Stay positive

  4. Disconnect

  5. Limit non conducive stimulants: alcohol, caffeine

  6. Sleep well

  7. Silence negative self talk

  8. Reframe your perspective

  9. Exercise

  10. Utilise a network/support system

At Ethical Quest we offer programmes that develop emotional intelligence at a personal level, a team level and at a leadership/executive level.
